Patch Patterns: Flags and Symbols

Six digitally-created versions of cross stitch pride patches, arranged in two rows of three, against a background of a textured partially-translucent aromantic pride flag. Text between the two rows reads Aro Pride Patches in black type. Patches include a rectangular patch in aroflux zigzag stripes, an idemromantic heart, an aro flag text patch reading "aro", a square in quoiromantic stripes, an arrow design in allo-aro colours and a second arrow in nebularomantic colours.

Here you’ll find all my flag and symbol patterns! For more information on how to sew them, please see my patch pattern tutorial page and my text patch miniseries.

Header links will take you to posts demonstrating sewn examples (if available). Patterns are grouped by theme or shape. This page includes all bonus non-text and non-arrow patterns. It does not include my aro arrow patterns.

Notes on Pattern Structure

Full coloured blocks or crosses indicate a full cross stitch.

Outlines indicate backstitch.

Blocks or crosses divided on the diagonal by a line of backstitch, each half a different colour, indicate quarter stitches. Please see my first text tutorial for more information on backstitching outlines and placing quarter/fractional stitches.

Space for edging your patch is not shown in the patterns below. You’ll need to allow additional blocks for this when cutting your swatch, depending on how narrow or thick you like your edges.

3 Stripe Square / Romo Aro / Aroflex Flag Patterns – 15 Block

Three square three, five or seven-stripe 15 x 15 block cross stitch pride flag patterns, set on a grey grid. Flags from left to right: the lime/yellow/light grey lithromantic flag, the green/light green/pink/white/pink/light grey/black romo aro flag and the green/light grey/black/light grey/light green with two white triangles aroflex flag.

The three-stripe, romo aro and aroflex flag patterns fit a square 15 stitches wide and 15 stitches high. Assuming a three stitch border, as for my other patches, this means you’ll want a 18 x 18 block swatch plus any excess (if used unmodified).

4 Stripe Square / Demi Flag Patterns – 16 Block, 4 Stripe

Three square four-stripe 16 x 16 block cross stitch pride flag patterns, set on a grey grid. Flags from left to right: horizontal grey/lime/white/coral idemromantic flag; vertical black/green/white/grey demiromantic flag with black rhombus/diamond; horizontal grey/lime/cyan/light grey demiquoi flag with black triangle.

The four-stripe, demi-rhombus and demi-triangle flag patterns fit a square 16 stitches wide and 16 stitches high. Assuming a three stitch border, as for my other patches, this means you’ll want an 19 x 19 block swatch plus any excess (if used unmodified).

Apothi / Jump / Spike Flag Patterns – 15 Block, 5 Stripe

Three square five-stripe 15 x 15 block cross stitch pride flag patterns, set on a grey grid. Flags from left to right: green/white/black/white/red with black cross apothiromantic flag; light green/grey/white/light grey/dark green with light and dark inwards-facing spikes arojump flag; and the grey/mint/grey with bright pink outwards-facing spikes arospike flag.

The apothi, jump and spike flag patterns fit a square 15 stitches wide and 15 stitches high.

8 Stripe Square / Vague / Demi Flag Patterns – 16 Block, 4 / 8 Stripe

Three square four-stripe 16 x 16 block cross stitch pride flag patterns, set on a grey grid. Flags from left to right: horizontal black/grey/cyan/aqua/green/lime/white/black quoiro-quoix flux flag; ; horizontal green/light green/grey/light green/green arovague flag; horizontal grey/white/green/black demiromantic flag with black rhombus/diamond.

The eight-stripe, vague and demi-rhombus flag patterns fit a square 16 stitches wide and 16 stitches high. Assuming a three stitch border, as for my other patches, this means you’ll want an 19 x 19 block swatch plus any excess (if used unmodified).

Aro-Ace / Spike / Greyromantic Flag Patterns – 16 Block, 8 Stripe

Three square four-stripe 16 x 16 block cross stitch pride flag patterns, set on a grey grid. Flags from left to right: horizontal black/green/light green/white/light purple/purple/black aro-ace flag; horizontal grey/bright pink/mint/bright pink/grey arospike flag; pink/white/grey/white/mint greyromantic flag.

The aro-ace, stripe-spike and greyromantic flag patterns fit a square 16 stitches wide and 16 stitches high. Assuming a three stitch border, as for my other patches, this means you’ll want an 19 x 19 block swatch plus any excess (if used unmodified).

Inset Rhombus Pattern – 15 Block, 5 Stripe

A cross stitch pattern for three different square patches on a grey grid background. Each patch shows two different five-stripe pride flags--one as a square, the other as a rhrombus set into the centre of the square. Both flags in each patch share a white centre stripe. From left to right: allo-aro (green/light green/white/yellow/gold) with an inset lesbian flag (dark orange/orange/white/pink/dark pink); queerplatonic (yellow/pink/white/grey/black) with an inset abro flag (mint/light mint/white/light pink/pink); and nebularomantic (maroon/coral/white/teal-blue/dark teal-blue) with an inset nebulasexual flag (pine green/light olive/white/tan/brown).

The five-stripe inset rhombus flag patterns fit a square 15 stitches wide and 15 stitches high. Assuming a three stitch border, as for my other patches, this means you’ll want a 18 x 18 block swatch plus any excess (if used unmodified).

This pattern requires two five-stripe pride flags. To create the effect of an inset rhombus, stripes 1, 2, 4 and 5 from the first flag need to differ from or contrast with stripes 1, 2, 4 and 5 from the second. Stripe 3 (the centre stripe) must be the same colour on both.

Inset Rhombus Pattern – 21 Block, 7 Stripe

A cross stitch pattern for three different square patches on a grey grid background. Each patch shows two different seven-stripe pride flags--one as a square, the other as a rhrombus set into the centre of the square. Both flags in each patch share a white centre stripe. From left to right: nebularomantic (maroon/coral/dusty pink/white/turquoise/dark turquoise/cobalt) with an inset lesbian flag (red/orange/light orange/white/pink/medium pink/dark pink); demigirl (grey/light grey/pink/white/pink/light grey/grey) with an inset aromantic spectrum flag (green/black/grey/white/grey/black/green); and aro-ace (black/green/light green/white/light purple/dark purple/black) with an inset gay masc flag (aqua-green/aqua/mint/white/light blue/bright blue/purple-blue).

The 21 block rhombus pattern fits a square 21 stitches wide and 21 stitches high. Assuming a three stitch border, as for my other patches, this means you’ll want a 24 x 24 block swatch plus any excess (if used unmodified).

This pattern requires two seven-stripe pride flags. To create the effect of an inset rhombus, stripes 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7 from the first flag need to differ from or contrast with stripes 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7 from the second. Stripe 4 (the centre stripe) must be the same colour on both.

Zigzag Flag Pattern – 17 Block, 3 / 5 Stripe

The three and five-stripe zigzag flag patterns fit a rectangle 25 stitches wide and 17 stitches high. Assuming a three stitch border, as for my other patches, this means you’ll want a 28 x 20 block swatch plus any excess (if used unmodified).

Zigzag Flag Patch Pattern – 18 Block, 4 / 8 Stripe

The four and eight-stripe zigzag flag patterns fit a rectangle 25 stitches wide and 18 stitches high. Assuming a three stitch border, as for my other patches, this means you’ll want an 28 x 21 block swatch plus any excess (if used unmodified).

The left-hand eight-stripe variant uses a quoiromantic quoisexual (or quoiro-quoix) flag with a black stripe at the top and bottom of the flag. This results in the additional line of black where the top black line meets the repeated sections of the black bottom line (and the bottom black line meets the repeated sections of the top black line).

This effect will occur with any flag that uses the same colour for both its topmost and bottommost stripes.

Heart Pattern – 15 Block, 3 / 5 Stripe

A cross stitch pattern for two different heart patches. The left-hand patch has three stripes, in the colours of the pansexual flag, and is framed in a darker blue outline. The right-hand patch has five stripes, in the colours of the transgender flag, and is framed in a darker pink outline.

Aroflex, priori aro and romo aro variants:

The three, five and seven-stripe heart patterns fit a rectangle 17 stitches wide and 15 stitches high. Assuming a three stitch border, as for my other patches, this means you’ll want a 20 x 18 block swatch plus any excess (if used unmodified).

As this design is best stitched upside-down, the pattern is oriented to match.

Heart Pattern – 16 Block, 4 / 8 Stripe

Cross stitch patch patterns for two heart patches. The right-hand patch, in a pixel style with no fractional stitches, has eight stripes in the colours of the Phily flag and is framed in a darker purple outline. The left-hand patch, with fractional stitches to make an angled border, has four stripes in the colours of the alterous flag and is framed in a dark red outline.

The four and eight-stripe heart patterns fit a rectangle 17 stitches wide and 16 stitches high. Assuming a three stitch border, as for my other patches, this means you’ll want a 20 x 19 block swatch plus any excess (if used unmodified).

As this design is best stitched upside-down, the pattern is oriented to match.

Heart Pattern – 18 Block, 3 / 6 / 9 Stripe

A cross stitch pattern for three different heart patches. The left-hand patch has three stripes, in the colours of the green/yellow/grey lithromantic flag, and is framed in a darker green outline. The middle patch has six stripes, in the colours of the rainbow/LGBTQIA+/gay flag, and is framed in a darker red outline. The right-hand patch has nine stripes, in the colours of the violet/cornflower blue/lilac/pastel pink/white/pastel pink/lavender/light blue/green aroacegender flag, and is framed in a purple-blue outline.

The three, six and nine-stripe heart patterns fit a rectangle 19 stitches wide and 18 stitches high. Assuming a three stitch border, as for my other patches, this means you’ll want a 22 x 21 block swatch plus any excess (if used unmodified).

As this design is best stitched upside-down, the pattern is oriented to match.

Heart Pattern – 20 Block, 4 / 5 / 10 Stripe

Cross stitch patch patterns for three heart patches. The left-hand patch, with fractional stitches to make an angled border, has four stripes in the colours of the asexual flag and is framed in a darker purple outline. The middle patch, in a pixel style with no fractional stitches, has five stripes in the colours of the allo-aro flag and is framed in a darker gold outline. The right-hand patch, with fractional stitches to make an angled border, has ten stripes in the colours of an a-spec flag and is framed in a green outline.

Apothi and caed variants:

Cross stitch patch patterns for two heart patches. The left-hand patch, with fractional stitches to make an angled border, is striped in the colours of the green gradient/black with grey and white columns caedromantic flag and is framed in a light green outline. The right-hand patch, in a pixel style with no fractional stitches, is striped in the green/white/black/white/red with black cross colours of the apothiromantic flag and is framed in a darker green outline.

Demi / dello variants:

Cross stitch patch patterns for three heart patches. The left-hand patch, with fractional stitches to make an angled border, has four stripes and a triangle in the colours of the demiquoi flag and is framed in a darker cyan outline. The middle patch, in a pixel style with no fractional stitches, has three stripes and a triangle in the colours of the demiromantic flag and is framed in a darker green outline. The right-hand patch, with fractional stitches to make an angled border, has four stripes and a diamond in the colours of another demiromantic flag and is framed in a blue-grey outline.

Jump and spike variants:

The four, five and ten-stripe heart patterns fit a rectangle 21 stitches wide and 20 stitches high. Assuming a three stitch border, as for my other patches, this means you’ll want a 24 x 23 block swatch plus any excess (if used unmodified).

Because these patches are more easily sewn upside down, the patterns are oriented to match.

Notes:

When rotated point downwards, the black triangles in the demi pattern will show in the correct position as per their respective flags. If sewing upside-down demi heart patches, so that the flag’s topmost stripe colour begins at the base of the heart, remember to horizontally flip the triangles so they cover the patch’s left-hand side.

To stitch an upside-down apothi heart, reverse the red and green stripes (so that green, instead of red as shown, is stitched at the heart’s point).

The caed heart can only be stitched as an upside-down heart as shown above; it cannot be reversed. When rotated, the columns will not be in the correct position. See this post for more info.

Heart Pattern – 21 Block, 3 / 7 Stripe

Cross stitch patch patterns for two heart patches. The left-hand patch, in a pixel style with no fractional stitches, has three stripes in the colours of the genderqueer flag and is framed in a darker purple outline. The right-hand patch, with fractional stitches to make an angled border, has seven stripes in the colours of the nebularomantic flag and is framed in a cyan outline.

Mesi and vague variants:

Cross stitch patch patterns for two heart patches. The left-hand patch, in a pixel style with no fractional stitches, is striped in the green/light grey/dark grey/light green/dark grey/light grey/green colours of the mesi aromantic flag and is framed in a darker green outline. The right-hand patch, with fractional stitches to make an angled border, is striped in the colours of the green/light green/light grey/light green/green arovague flag and is framed in a darker green outline.

The three, five and seven-stripe heart patterns fit a square 21 stitches wide and 21 stitches high. Assuming a three stitch border, as for my other patches, this means you’ll want a 24 x 24 block swatch plus any excess (if used unmodified).

As this design is best stitched upside-down, the pattern is oriented to match.

Ace of Spades Pattern – 20 Block, 4 / 5 Stripe

A cross stitch pattern for two different ace of spades patches on a grey grid background. The left-hand patch has five stripes, in the colours of the gold/yellow/lemon/ecru/brown angled aro-ace flag, and is framed in a darker gold outline. The right-hand patch has four stripes, in the colours of the navy/blue-grey/white/aqua oriented aro-ace flag, and is framed in a light aqua outline.

Demi, spike and jump variants:

The four-stripe, five-stripe, demi, jump and spike ace of spades patterns fit a rectangle 17 stitches wide and 20 stitches high. Assuming a three stitch border, as for my other patches, this means you’ll want a 20 x 23 block swatch plus any excess (if used unmodified).

Ace of Spades Pattern – 21 Block, 3 / 7 Stripe

A cross stitch pattern for three different ace of spades patches on a grey grid background. The left-hand patch has seven stripes, in the colours of the first aro-ace agender flag, and is framed in a light green outline. The middle patch also has seven stripes, in the colours of a black/green/light green/white/light purple/purple/black aro-ace flag, and is outlined in grey. The right-hand patch has three stripes, in the colours of a black/blue/grey aro-ace flag, and is framed in a light blue outline.

The three and seven-stripe ace of spades patterns fit a rectangle 17 stitches wide and 21 stitches high. Assuming a three stitch border, as for my other patches, this means you’ll want a 20 x 24 block swatch plus any excess (if used unmodified).

Crescent Pattern – 20 Block, 4 / 5 Stripe

Cross stitch patch patterns, in a pixellated style, for two crescent moon patches. The left-hand patch has four stripes in the colours of the oriented aro-ace flag (navy/blue-grey/white/aqua) and is framed in a darker teal outline. The right-hand patch has five stripes in the colours of the abro flag (mint-green/light mint-green/white/light pink/pink) and is framed in a dark pinkish-maroon outline.

The four and five-stripe crescent moon patterns fit a rectangle 16 stitches wide and 20 stitches high. Assuming a three stitch border, as for my other patches, this means you’ll want a 19 x 23 block swatch plus any excess (if used unmodified).
