Pride Patch Patterns: September 2022

Text reading "pride patch patterns" against a grey grid background. The words pride and pattern are written in a black handdrawn/script font and outlined with white. The word patch is drawn pixel-style like a cross stitch pattern and filled in with the green/light green/white/grey/black stripes of the aromantic flag.

As I post weekly pride patch patterns on Patreon, here’s a monthly round-up for non-subscribers!

Cross stitch pattern with the text arojump in block upper-case lettering, striped in the colours of the light green/grey/white/light grey/dark green arojump flag. Letters are outlined in very light green on a very dark green background.

Folks who need help with materials, stitching, finishing or attaching patches should check out my tutorial master page.

Previous patterns are available at my pattern gallery.

Notes on Pattern Structure

Full coloured blocks indicate a full cross stitch. Letter outlines indicate backstitch.

Blocks divided on the diagonal by a line of backstitch, each half a different colour, indicate quarter stitches. Please see my first text tutorial and my pride text tutorial for more information on backstitching outlines and placing quarter/fractional stitches.

Space for edging your patch is not shown in the patterns below. You’ll need to allow additional blocks for this when cutting your swatch, depending on how narrow or thick you like your edges.

Apothi Aro-Ace Patch Pattern – Ten Block, Upper Case

Cross stitch pattern with the text aroace in pixel-style lower-case lettering. The text is divided into two words - aro and ace - with each word striped in the colours of the apothiromantic (green/white/black/white/red with black cross) and apothisexual (purple/white/black/white/red with black cross) flags on a very light grey background. Pattern is set on a grey grid.

The five-stripe apothi “aroace” pattern fits a rectangle 61 stitches wide and 14 stitches high. Assuming a three stitch border, as for my other patches, this means you’ll want a 64 x 17 block swatch plus any excess (if used unmodified).

Arojump Patch Pattern – Ten Block, Upper Case

Cross stitch pattern with the text arojump in block upper-case lettering, striped in the colours of the light green/grey/white/light grey/dark green arojump flag. Letters are outlined in very light green on a very dark green background.

The five-stripe “arojump” pattern fits a rectangle 60 stitches wide and 14 stitches high. Assuming a three stitch border, as for my other patches, this means you’ll want a 63 x 17 block swatch plus any excess (if used unmodified).

Heart Patch Pattern – Demi, Three and Four Stripe

Cross stitch patch patterns for three heart patches. The left-hand patch, with fractional stitches to make an angled border, has four stripes and a triangle in the colours of the demiquoi flag and is framed in a darker cyan outline. The middle patch, in a pixel style with no fractional stitches, has three stripes and a triangle in the colours of the demiromantic flag and is framed in a darker green outline. The right-hand patch, with fractional stitches to make an angled border, has four stripes and a diamond in the colours of another demiromantic flag and is framed in a blue-grey outline.

The twenty-block demi heart patterns fit a rectangle 21 stitches wide and 20 stitches high. Assuming a three stitch border, as for my other patches, this means you’ll want an 24 x 23 block swatch plus any excess (if used unmodified).

Because these patches are more easily sewn upside down, the patterns are oriented to match. When rotated point downwards, the black triangles will show in the correct position as per their respective flags. If sewing upside-down demi heart patches, so that the flag’s topmost stripe colour begins at the base of the heart, remember to horizontally flip the triangles so they cover the patch’s left-hand side.

Heart Patch Pattern – Three and Five Stripe

A cross stitch pattern for two different heart patches. The left-hand patch has three stripes, in the colours of the pansexual flag, and is framed in a darker blue outline. The right-hand patch has five stripes, in the colours of the transgender flag, and is framed in a darker pink outline.

The fifteen-block heart patterns fit a rectangle 17 stitches wide and 15 stitches high. Assuming a three stitch border, as for my other patches, this means you’ll want an 20 x 19 block swatch plus any excess (if used unmodified).

Because these patches are more easily sewn upside down, the patterns are oriented to match.

The “arojump” pattern uses letters from my five-stripe block alphabet and can serve as a base for creating other five and ten-stripe custom text patterns.

The combined apothi “aroace” pattern is based on this image series and can be recreated with many five-stripe a-spectrum flags (a la flux, lith, grey, recip or abro) using my ten block pixel “aroace” pattern. Alternatively, individual apoithi-styled “aro” and “ace” patterns can be made by referencing my ten-block pixel “aro” pattern for the final stitch count.
